Our LCD Enclosure range offers climate control for outdoor digital signage.

As Digital Signage is a suitable advertising medium for both outdoor and indoor use, extremes of temperatures need to be catered for.

Putting an electronic menu board in a ski resort is an excellent idea, as it can offer so much information and advertising for local businesses, however with the harsh winter temperatures of -30 degrees Fahrenheit, the electronics within the poster frame require protection.  The damp from the snow, turns to ice and can destroy a hard drive therefore a thermostatically controlled LCD enclosure needs to be installed, occassionally called an LCD housing.

Likewise, in the arid desserts of Texas, digital signage and interactive menu boards have their place too, in establishments like restaurants and even a cattle diary, where milk quotas and production is monitored.  This certainly requires a thermostatically controlled LCD enclosure to manage the soaring temperatures, without damaging the delicate electronics.

Once connected to the power supply, these cooling or heating devices can be left to run, with minimal monitoring, as the thermostat will trip on or off as required, so does not have to be controlled manually.  As the temperatures change in the night, as the example of the dessert, where it can be extremely hot during the day, falling to sub zero temperatures at night, this would require a dual controlled thermostat.  The power supply is available in each countries own unique wattage, for example, America is 120 Volts, most of Europe runs on 230 Volts (formerly 220 V) and United Kingdom used 230 Volts (formerly 240 V).  The supplier of the digital menu boards will be aware of this and will advise prior to purchase.

LCD Enclosure Global are a leading manufacturer or LCD enclosures for outdoor digital signage protection.

LCD enclosure protecting TVs on Porches.

An LCD enclosure is increasingly being used for domestic use due to the protection these housings offer.

But let us look at a typical patio or porch installation and what is required.

  • LCD Enclosure

  • Television

  • Cable Box

  • TV cable

First lay the television cable from the inside cable box to outside on the patio or porch, wherever you choose to deploy the outdoor LCD enclosure.

Once the cables are fitted, the protective LCD enclosure has to be fitted to the wall and this is achieved by using the mounting holes and mounting the enclosure directly to the wall, or if you intend on using a ceiling mount, make sure it is extremely strong as this will bolt to the rear mount holes in the rear of the LCD enclosure.

Then fit the television into the enclosure and secure the TV to the internal mounting frame, then set up the cooling and heating system by setting the temperature that you require the cooling and heating to start operating, but bear in mind that the recommended temperature is 56 degrees Fahrenheit, for the heating we would recommend that you set the thermostat at 5 degrees then when the temperature falls below this the heater will warm the hardware before any damage is done with the freezing external weather conditions.

Then close the door to the enclosure and lock it, remembering to keep the key in a safe but accessible place.

Now your installation is set to cope with any thing the weather can through at it, from snow, sleet, rain and high temperatures.

A Touch Screen Digital Display is a very useful tool in the leisure industry particularly for Tourist Information.  Not only does it give the basic points of interest, but it is interactive and can pinpoint and highlight specific areas of interest and significance.  This has advanced a long way since the days of a paper map.

These screens can be found integrated within the windows of the local Tourist Information office juxtaposition of the town, where customers can find their own way around by just touching the screen or special film using their finger or a stylus provided.  The benefit of this can be to gather more information than by asking the staff.  It is also possible to have the specific information sent directly to a mobile phone device, to enable the customer to enjoy the sightseeing tour with access to other points of interest along the route.

Marketing companies have also thought of this strategy for advertising, for example, a restaurant offering a discount during the lunch time service sends out an email or message via blue tooth, enticing the passing customer to visit their establishment.

The electronic displays themselves can provide supplementary revenue by hosting a number of advertisements in conjunction with the Tourist Information, like hotel accommodation, shopping promotions and additional tours (like river punting or a ghost tour).

This form of communication for the city visitor is as exciting as it is practical, technology knows no bounds and is certainly a huge leap forward, and the only problem is keeping up with the evolving technology!

LCD Enclosure Global provide a wide range of outdoor digital signage solutions including their protective LCD enclosure range.

A 40 inch digital poster is one of the most popular sizes of digital posters on the market, let us look in to the reason why.

When a business decides on deploying digital advertising, they want the solution to be jaw dropping and creates a very good image for the business, that will put the company or business at the forefront of the consumers mind when they think of the product or service.

One of the main benefits of a digital poster is that these are awesome and will certainly create a stir with customers and passer-by’s alike, so the bigger the screen is the better the impact, turning demand into cash.

A 40” digital poster is the most popular size and with this large screen, it can display videos, images, PowerPoint presentations, full digital signage campaigns, as well as scrolling text.

Using the digital signage creation software that is available on the internet, this software can create attention grabbing content, that will pull paying customers into your store to buy your products.

When deploying these units they can be mounted either in portrait or landscape using the rear VESA mounting pattern, or they can just be hung from a window or door, one of the best positions is at eye level in the hair salon or beauty salon as all customers will watch the content to pass while away the time until their treat is completed, so for the salon this is an ideal time to sell to them whilst they are in a receptive mood.

Another use for a 40” digital poster is to highlight products at a tradeshow, you know the scenario, the booth you are in is hugely expensive so you have to maximise every single inch. Sometimes you don’t have the physical space to take every product, so this is were a large digital advertising poster comes in, they can be set up with a video of the products you couldn’t take coupled with a company overview.

With the recent Federal approval of the new food labelling law, this is said to effect around 200,000 restaurants and QSR (Quick Serve Restaurants) in the USA, however digital signage is here to help restaurant owners overcome this challenge.

This law was passed on March 23 2010 and it states that food nutritional information to be labelled accordingly on standard menus for restaurant chains with 20 plus outlets. This will not only affect Quick Serve Restaurants, but it will also impact on food delivery companies, theatres, movies down to even airlines and trains, not forgetting the little guy who bought into a franchise of a lunch wagon. Everyone will be affected!

The law is in 3 sections.

1)      The calorific value for each menu item has to be stated on all menus, from inside the outlet, takeaway menu and even the outlets online menu.

2)      The menu must state how the menu item can be used in a person’s daily calorie intake.

3)      Additional information must be available upon request

Here are some of the stipulations for displaying the above information.

The print size for the calorie information must be the same size and colour as the item name and price on the menu and this must be in place by March 2011.

However what most restaurant owners are finding frustrating is that they now have to chase suppliers for the correct nutritional information so they can add it to their menu, then they will have to control portion sizes and how in the world are restaurants to display the additional menu information attractively?

digital menu board
This is the end of the printed menu, as restaurant owners are seeing that they will not fit in with the business model for the future, with the need to change information on the menu quickly and accurately, this is why restaurant owners are turning to digital menu boards (also called digital poster) for the solution.

A digital poster can be configured to update content daily so all the nutritional information is accurate and if any changes need to be made to the menu, these can be done instantly with minimal effect, compared to printed mediums; any urgent changes would take a number of days and cost a lot more money.

Outdoor digital signage can be mounted in any location with the correct equipment; however there are some points to consider.

When installing digital signage outdoors you have to ensure that the mounting hardware is made to cope with the weather, for example you would not want to use an indoor mount as this certainly would not be weather proof and these are normally chrome plated that in time will discolour and need replacing.

The weight of a typical 46” LCD screen is 60lbs, then the media player 3lb and not forgetting the 46” LCD enclosure (that offers the weatherproof protection) at 100lb plus the accessories such as cables, you are looking at a rough total of 165lbs now normal indoor mounts are only manufactured to take the screen with no peripherals such as the media player.

So the mounting hardware has to be heavy duty, we offer a range of cost effective mounting solution for screens up to and including 60”, these can be mounted either as a single screen in either landscape or portrait or a dual screen format, back to back again in either portrait or landscape.

In addition to the mounts the columns can be extended for various height locations, at 4” increments, the mounting plate for the protective LCD housing can be angled from being flat to 18 degrees ensuring everyone can see the marketing material.

Cables are hidden in side the column in a cable raceway to make the installation look neat. The units are manufactured from steel and have a special coating that protects them from the harsh environment outdoors and this prevents them from corroding.

These ceiling mounts have been used in football and baseball stadiums and even at outdoor music festivals, so that spectators can see the action on the stage if they are too far away or in a location where they cannot see the stage.

Currently we are developing a reclining mount for a unique installation in Florida for 60” screens that will be located outdoors.

Digital Signage Side Wall Mount.

When any digital signage hardware is installed, no matter if it is indoors or outdoor digital signage sometimes you have to mount over an almost impossible void, let us guide you through this.

Some times in an installation the ceiling is too high and the floor is too far down such as in a shopping mall or over the escalators, with the need to mount the display at a set height the only option available is to mount the unit from a side wall.

The only issue here is that the weakest link is the mounting between the wall the mount, so getting this correct is paramount. As these mounts bolt to the wall using anchor bolts in the mounting plate and this had a heavy duty re-enforced arm that is positioned in the right position and locked into place then the display is added.

Outdoor digital signage installation.

The same process is used for outdoor digital signage, however the anchor bolts are usually more substantial as the total weight of the hardware in LCD monitor enclosures can be up to a massive 180lbs, in turn the mount is manufactured from heavy gauge steel providing a solution that is robust and will withstand the elements.

Normally for outdoor installation the mounting units come in 2 parts, the first is bolted to the wall then the other is bolted to the rear of the LCD enclosure using special anti theft bolts, then both parts are matched up and connected providing a solution that is resilient to theft as well as the elements.

There are numerous varieties of mount from floor mounts, ceiling mounts, flat wall mounts, angled wall mounts and cantilevered wall mounts, giving the audio visual installer total control over the installation process.

Many of the mounts feature cable raceways were the power and feed cables can be fed to make the installation look complete without any cables hanging loose.

LCD Enclosure Global - have the solution at an affordable price, anything else is a compromise.

Outdoor digital signage due to its uniqueness is sometimes located in some high visual area, but mounting the unit at the correct height can be an issue.

When digital outdoor signage is planned it will be in a high traffic area, but one thing to consider is how to mount the solution, especially when you take the total weight of the hardware and the LCD monitor enclosure into account, as this can be a whopping 165lb!

If you are in the industry you will know some of the following, so please excuse it as we don’t wish to try and tell you how to suck eggs.

The way the outdoor digital signage hardware is mounted is the weakest point of the installation; some organisations have a policy to bolt the protective LCD housings that defend the hardware from the weather and physical attack directly to the wall, other organisations depending on the location the solution is being deployed in need to angle the hardware so people are not struggling to see the advertisements.

LCD Enclosure Global has several solutions for mounting their range of protective LCD monitor enclosures; let us first look at the LCD enclosure and how it can be mounted.

Each enclosure can be mounted directly to the wall through the rear wall of the enclosure, audio visual installers normally use anchor bolts for maximum strength, however if the unit has to be angled down this is achieved using the rear mounting pattern on the enclosure that is 600 x 400 and is compatible with all VESA 600 x 400 universal mounts, making the solution as cost effective as possible, as there is no need to purchase expensive mounting frames dedicated to mount this enclosure.

Do you know what VESA is?

VESA is an acronym for Video Electronics Standards Association and is an International standard that is used to mount flat panel screens, however there are the odd manufacturer of commercial screens for digital signage that are not compatible with VESA, so you have to purchase costly mounting frames from the display manufacturers.

This standard relates to the mounting holes, for example a 600 x 400 VESA mount has mounting holes on the rear of the TV display at 600 mm wide x 400 mm high on the centre line of the display and varies according to the display used.
